Aromatherapy and Oily Skin Care

Human skin is made up of three layers.



The upper layer is epidermis – forms a protective shield for the body, second layer is Dermis – contains nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues and third layer is subcutaneous – acts as an insulator against heat and cold. Skin is one of the most important organs of the body. It protects underlying tissues from injury, germs, infection.



There are five different skin types’ oily skin, sensitive skin, combination skin, Normal skin and dry skin.

Internal factors such as pregnancy, menopause, health problems, menstrual cycle etc. and external factors such as climate, weather, sun exposure etc. can affect the skin type.

Each skin type needs to be maintained differently.



Glands that produce too much of sebum is responsible for oily skin. Oily skin is more prone to pimples, black heads, white heads etc. because it attracts more dirt and dust from the environment.



Oily skin need not be cleansed thoroughly. As compared to other skin types oily skin remains younger and suppler over time. A great care need to be taken of oily skin.



It should be cleansed with hot water and soap to prevent the pores from being clogged up. There are many natural and synthetic products available in the market to take care of the oily skin.

 Aromatherapy also provides remedy to take care of oily skin. Aromatherapy heals people using the aroma of natural plants and herbs.



Discovered in the year 130 by a French scientist, aromatherapy makes use of oils extracted from natural herbs and plants.  These oils are known as essential oil or aromatherapy oil.
Some of the essential oils that can be use for oily skin are Cedarwood, Cypress, Juniper, Eucalyptus, Lemon, and Lavender etc.

These essential oils can be used to massage the oily skin or they can be used as a toner by adding its few drops in rose water.

Treating oily skin with essential is completely safe because essential oils are natural and herbal.
