Swollen ankle may not only be because of injury. There could be many other reasons for it.
A person may suffer from swollen ankle during pregnancy, due to chronic over use, due to wearing too tight or too loose shoe, Fluid retention, lymphatic and kidney disease, diabetes etc. Some of the symptoms of swollen ankle are prominent dark blue blood vessels in the legs and feet, bulging, ropelike, bluish veins indicate superficial varicose veins, Aching, tender, heavy, or sore legs; often accompanied by swelling in the ankles or feet after standing for any length of time. Aromatherapy provides an excellent treatment for swollen ankles. Discovered by a French scientist in the year 1930, it makes use of natural aroma of natural plants and herbs.
Oils from these natural plants and herbs are known as essential oil or aromatherapy oil. These essential oils cannot be used in a concentrated form they have to be diluted before use.
Use of essential oils on the swollen ankles reduces swelling quickly and naturally, helps to relief bruises and strain, relief pain and provides warmth to the damaged tissue. Put twelve drops each of cypress and geranium essential oils in four ounces of carrier oil such as almond, soy or sunflower and gently apply the mixture to the legs by stroking upward.
Avoid massaging directly on the veins. Some other essential that could be used are rosemary, chamomile, etc. For swollen ankles due to pregnancy special avoid using essential oils like basil, cedarwood, cinnamon etc. For such times recommended essential oils are lavender, chamomile, cypress and eucalyptus. |
