Aromatherapy Oil - Neroli Essential Oil

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Produced through steam distillation from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree, Neroli essential oil is quite precious and rarely found. The bitter orange tree is one that does not grow a lot and that makes the oil extracted from it very expensive and difficult to obtain.

Since this oil is not solvent extracted as most commercially traded oils are, a single quart of neroli oil is made from about a ton of the bitter orange blossoms. The cost involved in getting this oil is therefore very high.

Neroli oil is used in creating exotic fragrances because of its wonderful aroma. It was introduced first in Italy and was used by perfumers to create perfumes for the nobility. The oil itself is named so after Princess Anna Maria de La Tremoille of Nerola. It was she who first discovered the fragrance and introduced it in Italy.

Health Benefits of Neroli Essential Oil

  • Neroli is used as an essential oil for its sedative properties. It is also used as a tonic for the nervous system. Neroli essential oil is popular for its use in the treatment of emotional imbalances and neural disorders that stem from emotional disturbances. The oil is also used to treat heart conditions like elevated palpitations.
  • Due to its sedative effects, neroli essential oil is recommended for those who have sleep disorders. Somnabulism and insomnia can both be treated with this essential oil. Since it is also a neural tonic, it can also be used to remedy anxiety and nervousness.
  • The best part of the oil is that it is so potent, simply inhaling its vapor can help alleviate symptoms of neural disorders. If it’s the calming effects of this essential oil that you require, simply rub a few drops on the abdominal area, around the navel.
  • In many ancient cultures, the bitter orange blossoms have been used to treat reproductive complications. Neroli Essential Oil has these properties too. It acts as a tonic to keep the reproductive system of women healthy.
  • If you suffer from menstrual cramps, the essential oil can be diluted with the oil of apricot kernel and applied on the abdomen or alternatively, it can be added to a bath too.
  • Neroli oil also has anti spasmodic and germicidal qualities because of which it makes an excellent remedy for most intestinal disorders. A bath with the oil can heal intestinal problems and also at the same time help in skin regeneration, giving you the appearance of glowing skin. People with mature and sensitive skin have found Neroli oil to be an excellent remedy for reducing fine lines and remedying skin blemishes.

Aromatherapy for Anger Management

Friday, July 24th, 2009

We go through changing scenarios and things that get us stressed, upset and angry, almost everyday. Anger, it seems has become the buzzword everywhere.

Our interactions with our environment and people around us are changing in many ways. The more polite and patient we are expected to be; the more difficult the task seems, owing to the continuous pressures on our time and skills. It is not unusual then to find yourself getting worked up about simple things. However, most of the times, getting angry or worked up is not a solution, instead it triggers a chain reaction of many unhappy events.

The term ‘anger-management’ cannot be stressed enough. Anger is not only unhealthy for the person who experiences it, but also for those who are in the immediate surroundings of the person. Living with a person who loses temper at every little thing is also difficult and therefore, not practicing proper anger management is like almost inviting unhappiness to be a permanent resident in your home.

People who are unable to manage their anger often resort to various techniques, some of which work for them and some of which don’t. The bottom line is that, there is no one glove that fits all when it comes to a solution for anger. Or is there?

Role of Essential oils in Anger Management

Aromatherapy has been well known for its cooling, relaxing and de-stressing effects. Anger is often a result of pent up stress which is all vented out in one go. If there is no pent up stress, will you still get angry about sundry things? Probably not. Aromatherapy, although not a complete solution to anger, is a potent one. Of course there are other things that when used with aromatherapy, can make the anger disappear quickly. However, to start off with, aromatherapy is something that you can use everyday, even while completing the other tasks at hand. Its convenience makes it the best and most viable solution for anger management.

Rose, Chamomile, Sage, Cedarwood, Benzoin, and Clary are essential oils that work well to de-stress you. They are easily available, though sometimes a little expensive, but they will be totally worth your while. These aroma oils come in small bottles and have to be used in very little quantity.

There are several ways of using these essential oils. You can mix these with a plain lotion or gel that you can obtain from any grocery store. Mix this cream or lotion with rose essential oil and store it in a cobalt blue or amber bottle. Use this self made lotion everyday on the dry parts of the skin, blemishes and irritation
