  • Almond oils have always been regarded as one of the best treatments for dry and problem skin. Almond essential oils can be used effectively to treat itching skin.
  • Ground almonds, when used with frankincense oil, are also a great remedy for itching skin.
  • You can make a special paste using a tablespoon each of ground almonds and plain yoghurt with a teaspoon of lemon juice. To this paste, add about two drops of frankincense essential oil. While the almond powder in this paste will help remove the itchy and dry skin, the yoghurt and lemon will smoothen the skin and the frankincense oil will help repair the skin to prevent further itching.
  • Another way to use essential oils for treating itching is to make a moisturizing oil concoction. Take a few essential oils like olive oil, grape seed oil, almond oil, and avocado oil. These essential oils should be mixed in equal quantities and then added to an equal amount of a carrier oil. Any vegetable oil can be used as a carrier oil. This concoction can be applied all over the body. You can even apply this concoction several times a day.
  • Another quick way to soothe itching skin is to put a few drops of your chosen essential oils in a warm bath. This bath will not only soothe the skin but will also help you relax. You can soak in the bath for about 10 to 15 minutes. For a warm soak, you can use oils of lavender, rosemary, juniper, almond, chamomile, pine, and jojoba. Some of these oils can be used for topical treatments.
  • If you have itching because of eczema or other skin infections, you can use the essential oils of neroli, chamomile, lavender, jasmine, geranium, juniper, patchouli, tea tree, yarrow, bergamot, sandalwood, carrot seed, and rose. These oils can also be used to treat symptoms of dryness, allergies, and psoriasis.

Some of these essential oils can cause further irritations to the skin; therefore, it is best to first check your sensitivity to these essential oils by testing them on a small patch of skin. Some oils may also increase your sensitivity to the sun. To avoid getting sun burns, always use a sunscreen of a minimum SPF of 30 immediately after using essential oils on your skin.

If you want to use the oil on your face, use them only at night. Other essential oils that can be used on the face are lavender, camphor, rose, geranium, yarrow, rosemary, cypress, chamomiles, grapefruit, rosewood, distilled lime, thyme, lemongrass, coriander, peppermint, sweet basil, cedarwood, juniper, niaouli, and myrtle.

Essential oils can also be used if your skin has begun to look mature and aged. Some of the oils that can be used to treat mature skin and wrinkles are neroli, carrot seed, sea buckthorn berry, elemi, galbanum, cistus, fennel, frankincense, patchouli, geranium, sage, myrrh, rose, rosehip extract, rosewood, clary, sages, cypress, and lavender.

To use these oils on your skin, you can use a facial steam. To make an aromatherapy facial steam, add a few drops of any of these essential oils into a pint of water that has already been warmed. If you have a facial steamer, you can also use that. Another way to use these oils is a facial masque.
