What is Diarrhea? Known by many different names like dysentery and loose motions, diarrhea is a condition in which a person passes loose stools which are watery in consistency. These watery loose stools are passed several times a day and each time, they are accompanied with bloating, abdominal cramps and nausea. The bowel movement may seem extremely urgent. This condition may keep continuing, leading to a severe loss of nutrients as well as dehydration.

What Causes Diarrhea
? There are various ways in which a person may get diarrhea. Since diarrhea is a disorder of the digestive system, it is usually caused due to a viral or bacterial infection in the gastro intestinal tract. However, there are other causes for diarrhea too. Diarrhea is not always harmful. However, it is an indication of an ailment in the body that needs attention. A strong pain in the abdomen or pain while passing stool should be immediately discussed with a doctor. If you have fever accompanied with diarrhea or if you see blood in your loose stools, you may want to show it to a doctor.

Continuous diarrhea can be dangerous for the body as it could lead to an electrolyte imbalance in the body or severe loss of nutrients. Diarrhea should be given immediate attention, especially in children who may go into shock due to a severe loss of nutrients and water.
