Aromatherapy is the use of various components extracted from plants like essential oils, herbal distillates, infusions, and carrier oils so as to boost the state of your physical as well as mental health.
Aromatherapy may be used to cure a wider number of ailments including arthritis. Arthritis is a disease which is caused by a lack of synovial fluid in the joint cavities, leading to an inflammation of the joints. The disease is characterized by pain, stiffness, and swelling of the joints, thereby restricting the range of movement. The ailment may lead to deformity of the joints in severe cases.
Aromatherapy may be used to treat arthritis. In the aromatherapy treatment of arthritis, various essential oils are employed so as to cure the disease. The essential oils may be used in baths or massages or they may be inhaled. The procedure best suited to cure arthritis using aromatherapy is as follows:
- Fill a medium sized bowl with hot water. The water should be sufficiently hot, but not boiling.
- Add three to six drops of essential oil to the hot water.
- Then dip a piece of sterile cotton in the hot water mixed with essential oil.
- Squeeze out the excess water from the cotton compress and place it on the affected area.
- You must repeat the process at least three to five times.
- You may then wrap the treated area in a warm towel and relax for a while.
The essential oils that may be used as a part of aromatherapy treatment of arthritis are as follows:
- Roman Chamomile essential oil: The roman chamomile essential oil is extracted from the plant of genus Anthemis nobilis. The oil is anti inflammatory in action and is used to cure arthritis.
- German Chamomile essential oil: This essential oil is extracted from the Matricaria chamomilla by the process of steam distillation. The oil is highly recommended to sure arthritis. It may also be used allergies, insomnia, cuts, and bruises.
- Helichrysum essential oil: It is also known as Italian Everlasting; Helichrysum is an herb and is very good for healing damaged tissues and as such, is used to cure arthritis.
The other essential oils that may be used to cure arthritis are black pepper, lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus, juniper, and lemon, to name a few.
