Aromatherapy Oil - Natural Toothache Remedies

Toothaches are usually not an isolated problem. What seems to be a simple ache in the tooth can actually spread to your entire mouth and when severe, cause migraines too. There are various medications and ointments that can be used to treat tooth aches.

Aromatherapy for Tooth Pain Relief

To relieve such toothaches, make a concoction by mixing extra virgin olive oil with equal parts of Thieves essential oil. Whenever your tooth begins to ache, use this oil to relieve tooth pain. Simply daub your fingers in the oil and softly rub your gums with it.

Clove oil has been a tried and trusted toothache remedy. Clove oil is not taken from the leaf, but the dried bud of the clove flower. This oil, though very strong, can help to relieve any amount of pain in the teeth or gums. Most dentists recommend the use of clove oil for temporary relief from tooth aches. If you do not have the oil readily available at home, you can simply put a clove in your mouth and wait for it to soften. As it softens, it will release the oil and that will provide relief.

Though the leaves of the clove plant are also rich in oil, they contain large amounts of eugenol, which is a toxic substance and should not be ingested in large quantities. The oil itself is very concentrated and can cause a burning sensation when applied to the gums or the inside of the cheeks. If this happens, you can dilute equal amounts of clove oil and olive oil and use this instead of the undiluted clove oil.

If you have a young infant who is teething, you can use a diluted clove oil mixture to rub on the gums and relieve the pain. It is recommended to dilute the clove oil sufficiently so that it doesn’t burn the baby’s mouth. It is best to try this mixture in your own mouth and use it only if it doesn’t burn. To dilute the oil some more, vegetable oils can be used. Speak to your doctor before you use any essential oils on infants or babies.

Chamomile essential oil and clove oil are both great remedies for toothache. However, clove oil is largely preferred over chamomile oil. To make an effective toothache remedy, mix chamomile oil with four times the quantity of vegetable oil. To this, you may add a couple of drops of orange essential oil. However, this is just for flavor and you can skip it if you don’t want to add it. Simply rub this oil on the gums of the tooth that aches.
