One of the constant complaints women all over the world have is Pre Menstrual Syndrome. This condition, popularly known as PMS, plagues almost all women everywhere. This is not a condition where each woman has the same symptoms or the same complaints. PMS manifests itself in different ways in different women. Swelling of the breasts, bloating, retention of water in tissues, moods swings, migraines, depression, and extreme irritability are some of the commonly experienced symptoms of PMS. Other symptoms include fatigue, severe pain in the abdomen or lower back region, stomach upsets, gas, and other gastro-intestinal problems.
The onset of the pre menstrual syndrome usually occurs about a week before the periods are due to occur. Sometimes it may come as early as 10-15 days before the actual menstruation cycle.
Essential Oils for Natural PMS Treatment
Though there are medications that help women alleviate some of the symptoms of this condition, aromatherapy can also be used to provide relief. The use of essential oils has proven to be a great PMS remedy, usually giving women relief from most of their symptoms.
Clary sage essential oil have proven to be one of the best mood lifters and are a great way to deal with the depression that women feel during this period. It helps balance women’s moods and brings stability. It also helps in dealing with migraines and helping women to relax.
Neroli essential oil, though very expensive, is also a great remedy for improving the moods and reducing irritability. A cheaper alternative to neroli essential oil are the essential oils of rose or jasmine. These too are mood enhancers and can help stabilize the mood by relaxing the nervous system.
If you experience excessive bloating and water retention and if your breasts feel tender, you can try the essential oils of birch, juniper berry, grapefruit, patchouli, carrot seed, lavender and marjoram. These oils can be topically applied, diffused, or used in inhalers.
To prepare a mood enhancer, mix three parts of essential oil of geranium with six parts of chamomile oil, three parts of clary sage oil, two parts of marjoram oil, and a couple of ounces of vegetable oil. Combine all these oils and use it to massage your body. You can even add this mixture of oils to your bath. If you get your hands on some Neroli oil, which can be a little hard to find, do add a few drops of it to this mixture. To use this in a diffuser, simply add the ingredients without adding any vegetable oil
