Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

A good head massage is known to relieve tension all over the world. In certain places, this remedy is so popular that songs have been composed extolling the virtues of a good head massage! However, you need to know that there can also be a large number of other problems that you may find solved if you get a good head massage. But in order to suitably resolve these issues, you must first know what they are and secondly, you should know the right kind of a head massage to give with them. The most simple and basic of head massages can be given using a basic oil that is suitable for your hair and scalp. The commonest use for a head massage is to provide nutrition and conditioning to your hair. Oils such as coconut, lavender, olive and castor oil are extremely rich in nutrition and will provide you with long and lustrous locks as well as a healthy and smooth scalp. The therapeutic uses of head massages start with curing ailments such as alopecia and excessive dandruff to tackling problems such as excessive stress and tension and recurrent headaches. To take care of the last two ailments mentioned, you would have to consult with a proper masseuse and figure out what is needed to take care of the particular problem you may be faced with.

You can get a massage on the forehead as well, and this can also be accompanied with acupressure. For this, you would have to consult with Ayurvedic physicians, as these kinds of methods are followed in that ancient stream of medicine. Some specific types of head massages can also be used to cure other ailments such as spondylosis and spondylitis. However, you should only opt for head massages in these circumstances under very strict medical advice and supervision. Since these ailments have to do with your neck, you cannot take chances. It is possible that a random massage can cause further damage rather than help to cure you. There are also a large number of acupressure points that are available in the head. These also can be stimulated using massage techniques. For instance, a direct result of severe indigestion can be a headache. A part of the head will be affected which is in tandem with your digestive processes and system. Only that part needs to be massaged to soothe your stomach. This should explain the need for medical supe

Acupressure Facial Massage

A facial massage can be of various uses. The primary use for it is generally concerned with the purpose of beautification of the skin on your face. However, since there are a variety of types of massages that can be done, their uses also vary accordingly. There are a vast number of oils that can be used very effectively for a facial massage. There are several acupressure points located on the face, and a massage will help to activate these points and help to heal certain conditions you may be suffering from. For instance, the acupressure point for sinusitis is located on either side of the nose. A gentle but firm two minute massage of the sides of both the nostrils will help to ease open your sinuses and will save you from a great deal of congestion in the facial and forehead area. For sore and tired eyes that are burning, you can apply pressure while massaging to the insides of your eyebrows. The end of the eyebrows that meets the upper part of the nasal bone is the point you need to target. The temples contain a horde of acupressure points. You can apply gentle pressure on your temples in circular motions with the tips of your forefingers. This will help you to get relief from chronic headaches, eye trouble and high stress levels. This massage is also excellent for relieving stress. If you accompany this massage with using the correct type of aromatherapy oils, then it will work positively in your favor.

You can also massage your forehead in smooth strokes starting from the center of the point where the eyebrows end and fanning outwards. This will take care of things such as insomnia and poor and broken sleep. But you would need to spend at least 10 minutes massaging your entire forehead. You can also get better results if you use eucalyptus oil for this kind of massage. But make sure you use the eucalyptus oil that is recommended for a facial and not the regular undiluted version. This may end up burning your skin, as it is a very strong product. The one used specifically for a facial is suitably and hugely diluted. A good and long facial massage is also extremely helpful in improving the circulation on your face. This will automatically lend a healthy glow to your face and will also help to make your complexion glow with good.

Relieve Back Pain - Acupressure

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Acupressure is a traditional Chinese treatment that involves physical pressure being applied to certain pressure points on the body. This massage technique has been medically proven to have superior benefits than a traditional massage. Some acupressure therapists also include the use of Aromatherapy to improve results. Aromatherapy uses Essential Oils which are extracts of medicinal plants and herbs and contain compounds that have therapeutic effects.

Backaches are classified and treated according to their location, intensity and duration. Backaches can be classified as upper, middle or lower backache and can be either acute or chronic. An acute backache is generally a sharp pain that does not remain for more than a few days. A chronic backache is a duller, throbbing ache that lingers for over two weeks. Although hereditary, which we cannot do anything about, does play a small role in backaches, the main culprits can easily be addressed and eliminated. These are:

  • Poor Posture has an adverse and immense effect on your back. Sitting or standing incorrectly as well as wearing high heels can put unnecessary pressure on your back and is often the root cause of most back problems.
  • Sleeping on a mattress that does not support your weight can cause chronic back aches; even the position that you sleep in can affect your back.
  • Obesity is a cause for concern and as obesity escalates so does back problems. Your backbone supports your upper-body. As it is not one solid bone but is in fact made up of several bones, it cannot take the burden of added bodyweight that comes along with obesity.

There are several pressure points on the hip, thigh, leg, spine, kidney and solar plexus that are involved in treating backaches with acupressure. This massage will also help to eliminate back pain as it identifies and corrects muscle imbalances. An acupressure massage that includes aromatherapy is paradoxically invigorating yet relaxing. Oils like sage, horsebalm and mountain dittany contain natural muscular relaxants. Cardamom and rosemary have high concentrations of Borneol which is a very effective antispasmodic compound that controls and reduces muscle spasms.
Essential oils are very strong and cannot be applied directly to the skin. They have to be diluted in a carrier oil before use. Several oils can be mixed together for optimum results. Make sure that you always use good quality essential oils and ensure that your bottle is not marked as having fragrance or perfume oils. These oils are not essential oils and have no therapeutic uses. You can make your own aromatherapy massage oil by mixing an equal number of drops of rosemary, birch, ginger and chamomile essential oils. Add four times the number of drops of lavender essential oil and mix the oils thoroughly. Your carrier oil will have to be at least five times as much in volume as this mixture
