Friday, May 28th, 2010

Baldness, or total or partial hair loss, is very common among men, but sometimes women may also suffer from this condition. Baldness may occur in different pattern for various individuals. For example, for some people, the baldness may occur in patches while for others, it may result in complete hair loss.

Some of the major causes of baldness are as follows:

  • Family history of baldness.
  • Bad eating habits and life style.
  • Certain skin diseases may also result into total hair loss.
  • The consumption of certain medicines or drugs may also cause hair loss.
  • The use of certain soaps or shampoos can also cause baldness.

Aromatherapy For Hair Loss and Baldness Treatment

Aromatherapy is considered to be one of the most effective therapies to cure hair loss with minimum risk of side effects. A combination of certain essential oils can be used for massaging the scalp in order to stimulate hair growth. The essential oils which can be used for the treatment of baldness are:

  • Rosemary essential oil
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Thyme essential oil
  • Grape seed essential oil
  • Cedar wood essential oil

A blend of these essential oils, mixed with jojoba, coconut, or olive oil can be used to massage the scalp. You need to take two to three drops of all these oils and mix them properly in the carrier oil. You must remember that the essential oils are very strong and should not be used directly without dilution.

You can then massage the essential oil preparation gently on your scalp with your fingers after washing your scalp with fresh water. Apply the essential oils at least three times a day. You may need to learn the massage technique required for this particular purpose. The massage is done while moving from the front of the scalp to the back and then from the back to the front. Consistent pressure is to be applied on the scalp while administering the massage.

Although aromatherapy is very effective, you should not expect miraculous effects. The hair growth may take a long time, so you will have to be patient. Not only do you have to be regular in the treatment, you may need to change your eating habits and life style as well. Consume a diet that is rich in vitamins A and B. You can also consult a dietician regarding a proper diet to combat hair loss. When combined with aromatherapy, this can be a potent cure for baldness.

Do keep in mind that just like any other alternative therapy, aromatherapy may give positive results to some people while some people do not get any results. Before starting the treatment, do consult your physician.

Aromatherapy Hair Loss Treatment

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Aromatherapy has come up as one of the most efficient alternative treatments for many ailments. Essential oils, which are derived from natural products and parts of plants, are considered extremely beneficial for treating many of our everyday problems.

While most people associate the use of aromatic essential oils with relaxing and soothing the body and mind, essential oils can be used for a variety of problems. Hair loss is one such problem that can be treated with the use of aromatherapy. In fact, regular use of essential oils can also help you grow hair and improve the texture of the hair that is already present.

Essential Oils To Promote Hair Growth

Some of the oils that are considered beneficial for hair loss are cedar wood, chamomile, bay, grapefruit, ylang ylang, jojoba oil, lemon, rosemary, and lavender. These oils can be used to achieve many health benefits and are especially good for hair growth. They contain the healing essence of the various parts of plants. In fact, it is believed that essential oils contain the ‘life’ of plants.

A recent study on hair loss was conducted over a period of seven months in Scotland.  It revealed that people who have suffered hair loss because of an infection known as alopecia areata, can re-grow their hair using a mix of essential oils.

  • For the study, a mix of two parts of thyme oil, three parts of lavender oil, three parts of rosemary oil, and two drops of cedar wood oil were mixed with a carrier oil made out of three parts of jojoba oil and twenty parts of grapeseed oil. These oils were mixed well together and massaged onto the scalp for about two minutes everyday. Though the process of re-growth was slow, about forty four percent of the test subjects reported drastic improvements over a period of seven months.
  • People who suffer from genetic male pattern hair loss may also experience improvements. When this oil is used regularly along with a healthy diet, the effects are greater.

There are several ways of using these essential oils. One of the easiest ways is to add a few drops of lavender oil and bay oil to a carrier oil such as sesame or almond oil. Mix this well and massage into the hair. Leave this overnight, and in the morning, wash it off using a mild shampoo.

You can also create an essential oil blend and store it for future use. To make this blend, add two parts each of thyme oil and cedar wood oil to three parts each of lavender oil and rosemary oil. Add to these six parts of jojoba oil and twenty parts of grapeseed oil.

Aromatherapy For Alopecia Treatment

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Aromatherapy has been recognized as an effective alternative treatment for many common disorders that we suffer from. However, recent research has shown it to be one of the best treatments for alopecia areata and alopecia universalis. Both of these are hair loss disorders. While in the former, hair loss is topical, in the latter case, there is hair loss from all over the head, face, and other parts of the body.

Hair loss often begins innocently with a few strands of hair coming out every time you brush or wash your hair. Within no time, you may realize that your hair is thinning and soon enough you may discover a bald patch on your head. These bald patches are somewhat sudden and may appear without any apparent warning. The patches seem infective as one patches follows the appearance of another.

Such round shaped bald patches are an indication of a disease of the hair follicles known as alopecia areata. They begin with small patches but quickly graduate to larger ones and in time cause complete baldness. Unfortunately for the people suffering from this disorder, most doctors are unsure about how to treat it. For most people, even if the spread of hair loss is controlled, the hair either takes a lot of time to grow back or doesn’t grow back at all.

While the traditional and more common way to overcome this disorder is to use a wig and cover the baldness, today aromatherapy presents a suitable alternative. Various essential oils, after a lot of research, have been known to encourage growth of hair. Each essential oil has its specific benefits and an aroma therapist may prescribe a mix of several essential oils or simply one, according to your needs.

Most essential oils that are prescribed for this disorder help in improving the circulation in the scalp. Some other oils help stimulate the follicles to encourage the growth of new hair strands. An aroma therapist who specializes in the treatment for hair loss can be consulted to provide a specific blend of oils that will suit you.

The process of hair fall reversal when using aromatherapy products may initially be slow, but studies have shown that the success rate is very good and there are good chances that your problem will be solved. The therapy works on various levels and since it is natural, there are no side effects associated with it. Aromatherapy encourages the body’s natural systems to work for its own benefit, treating your condition natura

Aromatherapy Hair Care - Essential Oils for Hair Care

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Aromatherapy for hair care is an effective method to treat minor scalp and hair problems. It can also be used on a regular basis to maintain healthy hair. Aromatherapy requires the use of several essential oils and carrier oils. The essential oils are obtained from herbs and medicinal plants and contain the therapeutic benefits of the plants from which they were obtained. However, since these oils are extremely concentrated, they should be diluted in carrier oils.

An aromatherapy oil massage for hair care uses several blends of various essential oils. You can also obtain a suitable blend and massage your hair with this oil on a regular basis. A regular aromatherapy oil massage will help to keep your scalp and hair clean and well nourished. The blend used in an aromatherapy oil massage will depend entirely on your hair type.

If you have oily hair, you can use a blend of Basil, Ylang-ylang and Rosemary essential oils. Basil essential oil promotes hair growth and so does Ylang-ylang. Rosemary essential oil helps to keep the scalp clean and prevents dandruff. These oils should be mixed in a carrier oil like safflower or sunflower oil. If you have normal hair, you can use a blend of Geranium, Lavender and Palmarosa essential oils. Geranium and Palmarosa essential oils help to strengthen the hair and add luster while Lavender oil helps to prevent dandruff and lice. You can use olive oil as a suitable carrier oil. Dry hair can pose serious problems as excessive drying leads to hair damage and breakage. Broken hair ends are more susceptible to splitting. You can use a blend of Myrrh, Rose and carrot seed essential oils. Myrrh is very effective in treating dry hair as it helps to stimulate underactive sebaceous glands. Rose essential oil is very soothing and carrot oil helps to nourish the hair and scalp. Jojoba oil is an effective carrier oil and is especially recommended for dry hair.

You can also use an essential oils hair mask for deep cleansing and nourishment. Add three tablespoons of fuller’s earth to a clean bowl. Add 4 drops each of carrot seed oil and rosemary essential oils. Slice a piece of an avocado and grind it well so that you get about 1 teaspoon of a thin avocado paste. Add the avocado paste to the bowl. Add a spoon or two of freshly pressed apple juice and mix well so that the mixture becomes a thin paste. Apply this paste to your hair and scalp and allow it to remain on for at least 30 minutes before you wash it off. The avocado in this hair mask provides your hair and scalp with essential fatty acids while apple juice provides it with several nutrients.  Rosemary essential oil encourages hair growth and carrot seed oil gives the hair a smooth lu
