Aromatherapy Dermatitis Treatment

Dermatitis is basically a skin condition where the skin gets inflamed. This inflammation can further cause redness, itching and even lesions. For years, scientists have struggled to find a cause for dermatitis. Unfortunately, not even the best of dermatologists have been able to find the actual cause of this skin problem.

There are many conditions in which the skin gets temporarily inflamed. Exposures to certain chemicals, a brush in with poison ivy, or allergic reactions, are some of the common causes of dermatitis. However, these are short lived and often the skin goes back to normal after the effects of the exposure, or allergens are removed.

There have been several cases where stress has been a primary cause of inflammation. How this affects skin, is something that medical science is still struggling to answer. However , there are treatments that can relieve the condition by alleviating the symptoms. Essential oils have also been tested against this condition and their ability to cure dermatitis has been proved.

Eczema, a bothersome skin condition which is characterized by crusty skin that itches a lot, is a skin disease as bothersome as it is embarrassing. The formation of crusty skin that goes red and flaky with itching is hardly a pleasant sight. The constant itching that it causes is also a severe problem and can seem ungainly in a social situation.

Essential oils for Dermatitis

There are various essential oils that are readily available in the market and have been proved be excellent against dermatitis. The oils made from Birch, cedarwood, cypress, chamomile and bergamot have been found to have soothing qualities when applied over skin affected with dermatitis. If the skin condition is infectious like in eczema, the essential oils help contain this infection. These essential oils are also germicidal so if the dermatitis has been caused by bacteria or viruses, the essential oils help kill these germs.

Essential oils are often mixed with herbal salves that contain a base of herbs. Some herbs that are well known for their healing properties, like calendula, can be used to make this salve. Fortunately, owing to today’s commercialism, there are such salves available in local pharmacies and therefore it is not necessary to make one at home.

To this salve, add a few drops of the essential oil of your choice. Do no think that adding more quantity of essential oil will help treat the condition faster. It is best to use a little bit of the amount and apply a small quantity in your skin to test for any allergies or skin reactions, before you use it on the affected area. If you do not get any reactions from the salve, consider it safe to be used on the affected skin.

If the skin condition that you have is infectious, it is best to use rosemary, peppermint, tea tree or lavender essential oils for making the
