Baldness, or total or partial hair loss, is very common among men, but sometimes women may also suffer from this condition. Baldness may occur in different pattern for various individuals. For example, for some people, the baldness may occur in patches while for others, it may result in complete hair loss.

Some of the major causes of baldness are as follows:

  • Family history of baldness.
  • Bad eating habits and life style.
  • Certain skin diseases may also result into total hair loss.
  • The consumption of certain medicines or drugs may also cause hair loss.
  • The use of certain soaps or shampoos can also cause baldness.

Aromatherapy For Hair Loss and Baldness Treatment

Aromatherapy is considered to be one of the most effective therapies to cure hair loss with minimum risk of side effects. A combination of certain essential oils can be used for massaging the scalp in order to stimulate hair growth. The essential oils which can be used for the treatment of baldness are:

  • Rosemary essential oil
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Thyme essential oil
  • Grape seed essential oil
  • Cedar wood essential oil

A blend of these essential oils, mixed with jojoba, coconut, or olive oil can be used to massage the scalp. You need to take two to three drops of all these oils and mix them properly in the carrier oil. You must remember that the essential oils are very strong and should not be used directly without dilution.

You can then massage the essential oil preparation gently on your scalp with your fingers after washing your scalp with fresh water. Apply the essential oils at least three times a day. You may need to learn the massage technique required for this particular purpose. The massage is done while moving from the front of the scalp to the back and then from the back to the front. Consistent pressure is to be applied on the scalp while administering the massage.

Although aromatherapy is very effective, you should not expect miraculous effects. The hair growth may take a long time, so you will have to be patient. Not only do you have to be regular in the treatment, you may need to change your eating habits and life style as well. Consume a diet that is rich in vitamins A and B. You can also consult a dietician regarding a proper diet to combat hair loss. When combined with aromatherapy, this can be a potent cure for baldness.

Do keep in mind that just like any other alternative therapy, aromatherapy may give positive results to some people while some people do not get any results. Before starting the treatment, do consult your physician.

Aromatherapy For Alopecia Treatment

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Aromatherapy has been recognized as an effective alternative treatment for many common disorders that we suffer from. However, recent research has shown it to be one of the best treatments for alopecia areata and alopecia universalis. Both of these are hair loss disorders. While in the former, hair loss is topical, in the latter case, there is hair loss from all over the head, face, and other parts of the body.

Hair loss often begins innocently with a few strands of hair coming out every time you brush or wash your hair. Within no time, you may realize that your hair is thinning and soon enough you may discover a bald patch on your head. These bald patches are somewhat sudden and may appear without any apparent warning. The patches seem infective as one patches follows the appearance of another.

Such round shaped bald patches are an indication of a disease of the hair follicles known as alopecia areata. They begin with small patches but quickly graduate to larger ones and in time cause complete baldness. Unfortunately for the people suffering from this disorder, most doctors are unsure about how to treat it. For most people, even if the spread of hair loss is controlled, the hair either takes a lot of time to grow back or doesn’t grow back at all.

While the traditional and more common way to overcome this disorder is to use a wig and cover the baldness, today aromatherapy presents a suitable alternative. Various essential oils, after a lot of research, have been known to encourage growth of hair. Each essential oil has its specific benefits and an aroma therapist may prescribe a mix of several essential oils or simply one, according to your needs.

Most essential oils that are prescribed for this disorder help in improving the circulation in the scalp. Some other oils help stimulate the follicles to encourage the growth of new hair strands. An aroma therapist who specializes in the treatment for hair loss can be consulted to provide a specific blend of oils that will suit you.

The process of hair fall reversal when using aromatherapy products may initially be slow, but studies have shown that the success rate is very good and there are good chances that your problem will be solved. The therapy works on various levels and since it is natural, there are no side effects associated with it. Aromatherapy encourages the body’s natural systems to work for its own benefit, treating your condition natura

Some of the beneficial essential oils for the hair loss are bay, cedar wood, grape fruit, jojoba oil, lavender, lemon, rosemary, and roman chamomile. You can add two drops of either of the oils to water or to a good vegetable oil like coconut or sweet almond oil. Massage the oils into your scalp, wrap your head with a warm towel and leave for two to three hours, or overnight. Wash off the oils with a mild shampoo so that you do not damage the sebum balance.

You can add six drops of bay and lavender essential oils to four ounces of carrier oils such as sesame, soybean, or almond oil. Massage this mixture on to your scalp for about 20 minutes.  Add three drops of bay essential oil to the shampoo you use every day. Massaging your hair will help improve blood circulation and enable hair re-growth.

You can try a blend of the essential oils of thyme, Atlas cedar wood, lavender, and rosemary. Mix them well in a jar. Now to this mixture add half a teaspoon of jojoba oil and four teaspoons of grape seed oil and mix thoroughly. Massage this mixture onto your scalp for two minutes and wrap your head with a warm towel. Leave overnight and wash with a gentle shampoo in the morning. Following this procedure regularly for a period of four to seven months will help hair re- grow, and retard balding and midlife thinning of hair in men.
