Treatment for swollen ankle

Swollen ankles can happen due to so many reasons – high blood pressure, fluid retention, inadequate circulation and pregnancy. Painful and uncomfortable, swollen ankles can be cured with aromatherapy and essential oils.

Aromatherapy for swollen ankles: Before you begin your aromatherapy treatment for your ankles, we suggest you assemble all your things together. You will need: bath towels and a plastic bag; a large bowl to dip your feet in; pillows; essential oils of Fennel, Cypress, and Lavender. If you are pregnant and have swollen ankles because of this, then use essential oils of Geranium, Lemon and Lavender.

Procedure: If you have swollen ankles you must bring your feet and ankles up to eight inches above the heart, a few times a day to let the extra fluid go away from the ankles. Then soak your ankles and feet in the large bowl or alternatively, you can wrap them in damp towels. Whether you want to use warm water or cool water – the decision is for you to make. But if you have stiffness in the ankles, warm water may be more soothing.

Then add a few drops of essential oil in the water and swirl it around with your hand. If you are pregnant, you should use only a single essential oil. But others can use a mix of oils. We suggest that you confirm with a therapist about the exact quantities and fragrances that you must you for your health condition.

Dip your feet in this water for about ten minutes and not a minute more. Stack the pillows on top of each other and place a plastic bag on it. Wrap your feet in damp towels and place tem on the pillows. After a few minutes, dry your feet. You can do this several times a day, depending on your health condition.
