Essential BlendsAromatherapy is one of the best natural therapies used to rejuvenate mind and body.
It makes use essential oils – oils extracted from plants and herbs. It is a combination of two words “aroma” which means scent and “therapy” which means treatment. Aromatherapy was discovered by a French scientist in 1930.
The aroma of the essential oils directly affects the mental and physical health of the patient. Aromatherapy oil also helps in creating emotional balance in emotionally disturbed people. Some of the essential oils are eucalyptus, cedarwood, sandalwood, rosemary etc.
Essential oils are highly volatile and therefore should be stored in an airtight container. Essential oils should be mixed with the career oil before using. Every essential oil has its own unique application and is very effective when used for that purpose. How ever one could also blend 2 or more essential oils to get greater effect than those oils would give individually, when essential oils are blended in this way they are known as essential blends. Essential blends are the undiluted essential oils blended carefully to have a certain effect on mind and body.
Essential oils must be blended cautiously. One must keep in mind for what purpose the oils are being blended. For example, if one is blending oils for diabetes oils like angelica root should be avoided as they are not good for diabetes patient.
For blending only natural products as such as essential oils, grain alcohol, carrier oils, herbs and water are used. Basically essential oils can be categorized in to 9 basic categories, Floral Woodsy, Earthy, Herbaceous, Minty, Spicy, Oriental and Citrus. Generally oils in the same category blend well together.
Care must be taken that contradictory essential oils are not mixed to create an essential blend e.g. an energizing essential oil should not be blended with a relaxing essential oil.
