Essential Oil Inhalers

“Inhalers” the word brings to ones mind a running or a jammed nose, suffering from cold.

To many the word is synonym to any branded product like Vicks inhaler. But actually inhalers are a portable device that gets the medicine directly in to the patient’s lungs through breathing. One would be surprised to know that, to many they also serve one of the ways to take aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy heals people using the aroma of natural plants and herbs.

Aromatherapy makes use of oils extracted from natural herbs and plants. These oils are known as aromatherapy oil or essential oil. There are many ways of taking aromatherapy like massage, inhaling the aroma, in bath water, dispensers, candles etc.  .

Inhaling aromatherapy oil affects the central nervous system through the olfactory system. Special inhalers are available in the market for inhaling the essential oil.

Aromatherapy using inhaler is mainly practiced for treating asthma.

Essential oil inhalers are portable and could be carried in a pocket or could be hanged around the neck using a string. Using essential inhaler is very simple. Put 8 to 10 drops of desired essential oil or essential blend on a cotton ball and place the cotton ball in to the inhaler.

Gently put the essential oil inhaler in one nostril while closing the other and inhale the aroma. Repeat the same procedure for the other nostril too.

Essential oil inhalers are reusable and seal tight and powerful.

When the essential oil inhaler is not in use it must be kept inside its container tightly screwed, this will prevent the aroma from leaking out. Using inhalers avoids one from practicing the conventional way of inhaling, where in the patient use to add few drops of essential oil or essential blend to hot water and cover his face with a towel or blanket to inhale the hot vapors. Some of the essential oils or essential blends that could be used with essential oil inhalers are eucalyptus, lavender, chamomile, Rosemary etc. Eucalyptus could be used for treating cough and cold. Lavender could be used for treating insomnia.

As aromatherapy and the essential oils used are completely natural and herbal it does not have any negative side effects.
