Massage Blends

Aromatherapy blend is defined as the final product obtained after combination of 3 to 5 essential oils with the carrier or base material.

The typical example of aromatherapy blend is the combination of the essential oils of  geranium, clary sage and lavender with the base of creams, lotions or carrier oils like sweet almond or apricot kernel. The difference between a synergy and the aromatherapy blend is that in synergy you just combine the essential oils without using base or carrier oil.  An aromatherapy blend allows you to magnify the power of each essential oil multiple times.

You can explore the properties of various carrier or base material. It is always recommended to use the dosage of 2.5 to 5% for blending into the base or carrier oil.

The dilution of 2.5% means you add 15 drops to an ounce of the carrier oil with an average swing ratio of 10 to 20 drops in an ounce.

Swing ratio determines the strength of the essential oils that you choose.  When you use the essential oils with strong aromatic fragrance, you can reduce the number of drops used. For the less fragrant oil, use more drops.

This will allow you to customize your aromatherapy blend as per your requirements. When you use 5% dilution, you add 30 drops for each ounce of carrier oil is considered as the clinical dilution of the essential oils.

This dilution has the swing ratio of 25 to 35 drops of the essential oil added to each ounce of the base. However, the modern research shows that in an aromatherapy blend less is always better and effective.

Hence it is always advisable and recommended to use the 2.5% dilution dosage rather than the 5% dosage.

However, you can use the 5 to 10% of aromatherapy message blends for immediate relief if you suffer from acute conditions like constipation, muscular aches, different types of pains, arthritis and migraines. The lesser dilution can be used for relaxing or cosmetic purposes. Test the blend on your hand of foot to determine your sensitivity to the blend. This will help you to mix the essential oils in the right proportion to the carrier oils for the best possible effects.
