Aromatherapy Massage benifits Emotional Well-Being

Stress has been identified as the root cause of many diseases, both physical and emotional.



Aromatherapy massage can be used an as alternative medicine to overcome both physical and emotional stress. When you are stressed, your body goes into fight and flight syndrome which is triggered automatically when faced with the stressful situation. The adrenal glands, located above the kidneys, secrete adrenaline, which is a hormone responsible for increasing the heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar and blood fats. It is also responsible for producing the sweat which cools down the body, when it gets ready for attack. The stress response affects the stomach and abdomen, leading to urinating or defecating.



Stress in limited quantity is good since it helps you achieve your goals. But the continued prolonged stress leads to problems like diabetes, blood pressure and heart diseases. It has also been shown to reduce your body’s immunity thus leading to infections.

Work related stresses can be caused due to your employer failing to meet your expectations, you not being able to meet your employer’s expectations, unrealistic deadlines etc. You can find aromatherapy as your saviour to ease this stress. Keep an aromatherapy essence burner on your desk and use the blend of four drops of frankincense and geranium or four drops of basil and bergamot.



You can also inhale these oils by putting them on the cotton wool pad or use them in the bath. Aromatherapy massage of marjoram and lavender in the base oil will ease muscular tension and make you feel better.

For stress at home, use a blend of four drops of chamomile and lavender or four drops of neroli and frankincense in an essence burner. You can also use lemongrass to calm your mind. If you are an aggressive type, you can calm yourself by using a blend of four drops of sandalwood and ylang ylang or four drops of vetiver and bergamot in a burner, bath of have an aromatherapy massage.

If you are suffering from a pain caused by injury, condition or illness, you are likely to get easily stressed. To ease the irritation caused by pain, use a blend of lavender, chamomile and marjoram.



Add three drops to the bath or five drops of each to 30 ml of base oil and use in a burner. To relieve general stress and induce relaxation, use the essential oils of bergamot, lavender and ylang ylang.

Stress has taken over the lives of young children too. Constant pressure to perform at the peak in studies, the pressure induced by the parents to become an all rounder in various fields and the peer pressure to conform to their ways of living and thinking has caused a tremendous strain on the young generation. Try a blend of two drops of Roman chamomile and bergamot to ease anger and irritability. To alleviate pre-exam nervousness and help concentration use a blend of three drops of basil and sweet orange or lemongrass in a burner in the study room or around the house.



Avoid violent outbursts by using the blend of four drops of clary sage and jasmine either in a burner or added to the bath

One of the best methods of easing stress is to become assertive. You learn to say NO to the things that you do not want and stand up for your own rights and needs. To strengthen your assertiveness, and increase your resolve, try a blend of two drops each  of frankincense, geranium and sandalwood. You can use this in a burner, bath or enjoy a relaxing aromatherapy massage. Avoid procrastination by using a blend of four drops of grapefruit and four drops of sandalwood or cajeput.



Persevere in difficult circumstances by using a blend of four drops each of frankincense and sandalwood.

If you are suffering from depression, use a blend of four drops each of jasmine and bergamot. There are other oils like basil, , chamomile, clary sage, lavender etc. who aid in easing depression. But avoid using marjoram. Fatigue can be reduced by trying a blend of four drops each of rosemary and frankincense. You can use grapefruit if you have high blood pressure.

Use these oils regularly in aromatherapy massage, bath or in essence burner. This will give you the most effective results.
