Aromatherapy Herbs for Household Cleaning & Freshening

You can use the essential oils in and around the house to keep your home neat and tidy.

They can be used singly, blended or in association with the other household products like phenyle, air freshener, liquid detergent etc. The aromatherapy herbs whose oils are used for disinfectants are pine, lemon, lavender, orange, tea-tree and thyme.

Add these oils to the hot water for a general disinfectant or to floor or washing or rinsing water. You can drop a few drops of lemon, lavender, orange or pine into your sink drain or in the toilet.

For washing the clothes, add the essences to the rinsing water in the quantity of three or four drops in an average sized bowl. You can also add these oils to your fabric conditioner.

These oils are cheap but if you buy them in bulk, you can get fabulous discounts from the suppliers.

It is also possible to make flower water by using essential oils.

Take a large bottle of around 200 ml preferably amber in colour. You can use pure spring water and the essential oils of your choice.

The most commonly used aromatherapy herbs are chamomile, geranium, jasmine, lavender, lemon, mandarin, neroli, orange sweet, rose and ylang ylang. Shake this bottle vigorously so that the essential oils mix well with water and store in the cool, dark place. Repeat this shaking procedure two or three times in a day. Continue this process of shaking for ten days, after which you can get lightly perfumed flower water. You can use this to wash your face or spray. The aromatherapy herbs of lavender, chamomile, rose, lemon or orange are used in making sweets like fondants or icings.
